Hyaluronic Acid Fillers
Conveniently located to serve Brookline
Hyaluronic acid fillers are non-surgical minimally invasive products used to add volume to the skin, smoothing away a variety of wrinkles. With hyaluronic acid fillers, Brookline patients can enjoy effective results without frustrating downtime.
What Are Hyaluronic Acid Fillers?
As people age, the skin of a person’s face becomes thinner due to the natural decline of a substance called hyaluronic acid (HA). The result is thin lips, moderate and harsh age lines and wrinkles, and sagging skin.
Hyaluronic acid fillers are dermal filler products composed of synthetic HA. HA is capable of holding water at many times its original weight. This degree of water molecule retention allows these fillers to hydrate aging skin and increase volume, resulting in natural-looking plump skin.
These fillers can be used in many parts of the face, like the cheeks, lips, chin, areas around the nose, and jawline. All of the fillers intended to be injected in different parts of the face are formulated differently; fillers meant to be used for cheeks tend to have larger molecules, whereas fillers for age lines have smaller molecules.
The Benefits of Hyaluronic Acid Fillers
These dermal filler injections provide several benefits:
Because hyaluronic acid is a natural product found in our body, synthetic HA is very safe, making allergic reactions rare.
HA fillers boost skin volume and increase collagen protein production to make skin smoother and more youthful.
The results of this treatment last from six months up to a year. Certain HA fillers last even longer than this. The body gradually and safely absorbs these fillers.
If you are not satisfied with your appearance after this injection, this treatment can be reversed. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved using a special enzyme called hyaluronidase.
Preparing for a Hyaluronic Acid Filler Treatment Session
You should discuss your complete medical history with Dr. Darrow during your consultation. Let him know if you have any allergies, and make sure to convey your expectations and goals. He will help you understand the treatment process, and you can ask any questions you may have.
To decrease the risk of unwanted bruising, you will be asked to stop drinking alcohol and taking blood-thinning medications for a week before the injections. Avoid waxing, bleaching, or using hair-removal lotions on the area to be treated. You may be asked to stop certain herbal supplements like ginseng and fish oil.
The Injection Procedure
The procedure only takes 15 minutes to half an hour to complete. The exact duration of the treatment session depends on the areas to be treated.
First, the treatment sites are marked, and then a cannula or needle is used to inject the hyaluronic acid fillers into the sites. A majority of fillers contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic that temporarily numbs the treatment areas to any discomfort or pain.

Post-Treatment Care
You can return to your everyday schedule right after a treatment session without any recovery process or downtime. You can put ice on the area to address any minor bruising or swelling that occurs. You should consume plenty of water.
Care must be taken to avoid alcohol for at least a day after the injections, since alcohol makes you vulnerable to bruising. You should not use aspirin for three days after these injections. Avoid strenuous physical activity, hot baths, and saunas for a couple of days.
- Excellent all the way around. Had work done and couldn't be happier with the results and treatment.
How Much Do Hyaluronic Acid Fillers Cost?
The exact price of treatment with hyaluronic acid fillers changes from practice to practice. Additionally, the specific HA filler chosen affects cost, as does the number of injections needed.
